Medicare Prescription Plans
All the plans are required to cover a wide range of prescription drugs that people with Medicare plans are supposed to take. Along with those, Medicare Prescription Plans also cover most of the drugs in protected classes – these include the specific drugs to treat cancer or HIV/AIDs.
Many drug plans of Medicare and Medicare health plans with drug coverage classify drugs in different levels referred to as ‘tiers’ on their databases. Drugs belonging to different tiers have different costs. For instance, a drug mentioned in the lower tier will usually cost less than a drug placed in the higher tier.
Most of the drug plans of Medicare and Medicare health plans with drug coverage have their individual lists of which drugs are covered under the plan. This list is called the formulary. The formularies contain both the name of the brand of prescription drugs and generic drug coverage.
The formulary comprises at least two drugs in each of the most commonly prescribed categories and classes. This helps in making sure that people with different medical conditions and illnesses can get the right set of medicines needed.
